You may wonder why it is important to have a regular skincare routine to follow. The reason is your skin adapts to the products you use regularly and if you are consistent will following a routine, you will see results. Patience is key with skincare.
To see the best possible outcome from your routine, be sure to apply them in the correct order. As every product has a different molecular structure, they should be applied from thinnest to thickest, as the final thicker layers provide a protective barrier for your skin.
Understandable with a busy lifestyle, it can be difficult to keep up with a skincare routine, from sourcing the best products, to knowing which order to use them in and how to apply them. I have curated my favourite products which I use twice a day in the morning and in the evening. By following a skincare routine like mine you will be seeing results in no time.
Cleanser
I always start my routine with a cleanser. I find this is the most refreshing part of the routine.
Cleansers are formulated to free our skin from dirt, excess oils, dead skin cells and help to remove makeup. The cleanser does this by cleaning your skin without removing the top layer of the skin, gently exfoliating the top skin cells and unplugging your pores.
This may sound like a product to only use in the evening but it is also beneficial to use in the morning to remove any toxins, and even to refresh skin to prepare it for makeup application. For the application of this product ensure your skin is damp. Squeeze a small amount onto your fingertips then gently massage into your skin and finally rinse thoroughly with warm water.
Toner
The second stage is to use a toner. In the past the difference between a cleanser and a toner has been questioned.
Both are available in water-based forms and can remove dead skin cells. The main purpose of a toner is for its hydrating properties. In scientific terms it is a fast penetrating liquid which delivers rapid hydration to your skin.
You should use toner straight away after cleansing while your face is still damp. This allows the active ingredients to penetrate the skin more effectively. For the application generously apply the product to a cotton pad and apply all over the face.
Facial Mist
A facial mist can be used in a number of ways. I like to use it before makeup to hydrate the skin and create a dewy base.
However, it has also become a handbag essential for me to use throughout the day to refresh my face and makeup. I personally prefer to use a brightening facial mist as that is the complexion I am aiming to achieve.
The product linked below contains lime pearl extract which promotes the brightening effects, also containing vitamin C to help reduce the appearance of ageing. For the application of this product shake the bottle and spray two to four times from around ten inches away in an X formation to achieve even coverage.

Serum
A face serum is a lightweight moisturiser that can penetrate the skin deeper than many traditional moisturizers. This is because serums do not contain the heavier ingredients traditional moisturizers do, which allows the serum to absorb the active ingredients into your skin more effectively.
However, a serum should not replace your moisturizer but should be used in your routine beforehand to increase the hydrating effects contained in the moisturizer. Using a face serum regularly can make your skin appear smoother, firmer, even skin tone and minimize the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles.
This product is suitable for all ages, but particularly beneficial if you are thirty years or older and in winter months when your skin craves the extra hydration. This is due to the Hyaluronic acid and the vitamin C and E the below product contains.
Make sure to look out for this when shopping for a serum. For the application of this product massage a generous amount into you face, neck and décolletage.

Moisturizer
I’m sure you will agree this is a constant staple in even the most basic of skin routines. Moisturizers contain skin hydrating emollients which have larger molecules than serums and are designed to create a physical barrier to seal the skin.
This locks in the moisture and nutrients that your serum has provided. The benefits of using a moisturizer are the protection it provides your skin with from the environment, preventing your skin from becoming dull and flaky. This creates the dewy glow we all desire.
I choose to use two different creams, a day cream in the morning and an evening cream at night. For the application of this product put the cream onto your fingertips and like the serum apply to your face, neck and décolletage ensuring it is thoroughly massaged into your skin.
Facial Oil
The final stage of your skincare routine, and an important one, because facial oils help to further absorb the other skincare products. Facial oils are super hydrating and work well for all skin types, not just for those with dry skin.
It can be equally beneficial for those with more oily skin, although I would advise you to only apply once a day at night. The product promotes your skin’s natural glow with a silky feel and creates the perfect base for your makeup, which allows the application of your foundation to be noticeably smoother. For the application of this product massage two to three drops of the oil into your skin for best results.
